Artomatic Installation

Here is a picture of my Artomatic Installation. It is called "1,584 Bottles of Beer on the Wall". It is inspired by my husband’s Grandfather, “Sarge”. When Sarge turned 60, he gave up drinking completely. He was quite a drinker, so being able to go ‘cold turkey’ was pretty impressive. I used a huge bucket of nails that were his to complete the project.

EARTH DAY Community Arts Project

For several weeks now, I have been working on a Community Arts project called "EARTH EGGS". In partnership with College Park Arts Exchange, I have gone to four elementary schools in College Park, Maryland. At these schools I introduced the concept of "EARTH EGGS". Earth Eggs are eggs made out of recycled paper with a small note inside containing a wish for the Earth for Earth Day. The students made over 100 eggs.

On Saturday, April 19th from 10am-1pm we will create a large nest to hold all of the eggs we created. This event will be held at the Old Parish House, 4711 Knox Road, College Park, Maryland. All are welcome to assist with this free project. You can even bring yarn or ribbon to add to the nest!

Stimullating Constumption Opening

Here are a few photos from Opening Reception/2nd Birthday Party for the Heineman Myers Gallery. It was a fun time for all. My husband and his band, "Carbon Freeze" performed throughout the evening as everyone enjoyed some cake from Cake Love. The next event will be an Art for Obama fundraiser, where I will be weaving all evening and answering questions. Go by and see the show, it will be up until May 1st. Gallery Hours are 12-6 Tuesday-Saturday. 4728 Hampden lane, Bethesda, Maryland

Artomatic 2008

Picked out my space for Artomatic 2008. It is a great building at Capitol Plaza I; 1200 First Street, NE Washington, DC. My work will be on the 6th floor. It is the biggest Artomatic EVER! It might also be the nicest venue. All of the spaces seem great and, as usual, the voluneer staff of Artomatic are TOP NOTCH! I will install a piece called "1,000 Bottles of Beer on the Wall". We will see how that works out.

Community Arts at Lucy Barnesley Elementary

Here is an update on the progress of the paper sculptures at Lucy Barnesley Elementary. Through a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council Artists in Education Program I worked with 4th and 5th graders on paper sculptures. Since I was last there in January, their fantasic teacher, Lara Nuterangelo has worked with them on painting and adding acrylic polymer to make them pop! Now, we have the task of creating structures to house them and hang them on the wall in the Library. We spent all day working on a solution, and I think we found one. Here are some pictures of the process.

STIMULATING CONSUMPTION @ Heinemen/Myers Contemporary Art

This piece, "Patchy Basket" will be in a new show in Bethesda. I am so proud to be in this show at the awesome Heineman/Myers Contemporary Art Gallery! Zoe Myers is really a wonderful gallerist and I am so happy to be working with her on this show. This show was also mentioned by Kriston Capps in this month's WASHINGTONIAN magazine. He wrote a great article about the Washington Arts scene.

AIR MAIL @ Carroll County Arts Center

Okay, I don't have a photo of this piece. I hardly had time after I took it off the loom until Susan Williamson came by my studio to pick the piece up and transport it to Westminster. It CAN be seen at the "Restating the Arts"show at the Carroll County Arts Center from April 3-June 7, 2008. The opening is tomorrow night from 5:30-7:30. The show features an artist from every county in Maryland, some who participated in a similar show five years ago when CCAC opened their beautiful art center (once an old-time theater, now a center piece of visual and performing Arts. You can read an article about the show here.

" A Tribute to Fiber Art" Photos

I showed up a little late to the opening of "Tribute to Fiber Art" on Saturday. I did take a few pictures, however. I also took a few photos of pieces I particularly liked.
The first is coiled wires sculptures by Marla S. Rudnick. These pieces look so light, like you would break them if you touched them. But, I am sure they are very sturdy and the feeling is based on the thin wire she used.
My next favorite in the exhibit was the work of Susan Callahan Dugard (love the three names!). Her pieces were whimsical and fun. The colors and assembleges of her quilts were really great and reflected the context of her work which is our relationship with food. She's a CHEF!! get it?
Anyway, go by and see this show at the Blackrock Center for the Arts if you are in the Germantown, Maryland. It is up until April 22nd.
