Garbage Garage at Harris Bilingual

I helped out at the Harris BilingualFiesta working at the Garbage Garage booth. We created art out of trash brought in by the Harris Community. It always amazes me what creative minds can do with recycled trash. A lightbulb becomes royalty and a tomato cage becomes a figure. What a great time we had!

Tilework Pictures

Since my move, much of my time has been spent tiling the three bathrooms in our new house (and the kitchen backsplash, and the out side and.....) here are some pictures of the "Crazy Quilt" Bathroom including my husband's pride and joy, a waterless urinal. Pretty clean, huh?

New Work

This piece, called "DEAD RINGER" is the latest in a series of four tapestries woven using plastic rings. This one is a bit of a hodgepodge, using rings from all walks of life. The piece measures about 25"x30" and is woven on a frame loom using cotton twine and fabric strips along with a variety of plastic rings.

Garbage Garage Open House

I have been a big fan of the Garbage Garage since before we moved to Fort Collins. This Education Center, located on the outskirts of the Larimer County Landfill, teaches kids and adults about reduce, reuse and recycle in a fun and creative environment.

They will have their annual open house this Saturday from 10:00-2:00. Fun, popcorn and drinks, games and giveaways await visitors on May 9. Local magician Cody Landstrom will be returning by popular demand. H2O Joe and his side-kick Flo will make their first ever visit to help you learn how to protect water quality, Cedar, the Doggone Green Crusader, will share tips for helping you learn how to track your pet’s “eco-paw print.” Artwork by student finalists in the 2009 “Trash to Art” contest will be on display and visitors are invited vote for their favorite artwork with winning entries being on display for a year. All activities are free.

The Garbage Garage is located at the Larimer County Landfill on South Taft Hill Road, Fort Collins, about two miles south of Harmony Road. Those who can’t make it to the open house but want to check out the Garbage Garage at another time should call (970) 498-5772 to schedule a free tour, or drop by during regular hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. For more information, visit www.larimer.org/solidwaste

Hope to see you there!

Celebrate Re-Source and Sustainability

During our renovations to our new house in Fort Collins, we went to ReSource to buy doors, tile, cabinets, etc. We also dropped off a lot of stuff we didn't need. It is a great place to go if you are looking to get inspired. My husband found this display cabinet at Re-Source and made it into a swanky bar! ReSource is celebrating its 3rd Anniversary. Go by and give them a gander.
