Boulder "Open Wall" 2010

Here are some pictures from this cool event at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art. It was called "Off the Wall" and artist could bring in their work, out it on the wall in an unjuried manner and hopefully someone would bid on it and literally take it off the wall. It was a fun night, but, alas, my work didn't sell. There were a lot of works that didn't sell, unfortunately. But, it was quite a scene and the museum is a really cool space. I will be their next year!!

More new work

This piece, called GRANDMAS TAG is based on the idea of tagging, in the vein of your Grandmother's quilt. These pieces are made from some pieces I found at Unique Repeats, a local thrift store that always provides me with inspiration. This piece is about 4' long and 2' wide, it is mounted on a board I found at Resource, another awesome recycled art type o place.

FINISHED ORBITS

I have been working on a commission piece for the past few weeks. This client has seen one of my Orbit pieces in the house of a collector and asked if I could do one for her. The Orbit pieces are made using shoelaces and cotton fabric. The Shoelaces were given to me by the owner of Duke's Shoe Repair in Washington, DC.

Commissions are fun, but tricky. I have started doing two similar pieces for each commission, that way the client can decide which one she likes the best. It works well, because afterwards you have a piece that you might not have done in the first place. Here are images of both pieces I did for this commission. Guess which one the client chose?

Stance...purchase award!

I am happy to announce that Stance now has a new home. It was recipient of a purchase award during the notBIG show at Logsdon1909 in Chicago, Illinois. Happy to know this piece will stay in the Windy City, one of my favorite places to be. Thanks to Marco Logsdon the director of the gallery and the patron who provided the award. What a nice way to start 2010!
