DCCA Annual Juried Members' Exhibit

I Love the Delaware Center for Contemporary Art! One of my professors from MICA told me that the DCCA was one of his favorite venues on the East Coast. I have to agree with him. It is a lovely place and the staff is so approachable and GOOD at what they do. It is a joy to work with them. (did I mention that they always have a community arts project at every opening? A Kid friendly gallery? why not?! Thank you, Holly) Anyway, Tonight was the members' evening and opening for the Juried Members'show. My favorites in the show? Jamey Grimes "Between Space" a lovely installation made from melted corregated plastic (he traveled all the way from Tuscaloosa, AL for the evening, by the way). I also enjoyed Jessie Lehsen's piece called "Lick" a grouping of Pulled and Blown sugar bubbles hanging in a corner. My daughter, who just learned how to blow bubbles, was pretty impressed by the piece. Another piece I liked was David Mayers work called "Detach" a surface of flour with imprints. The flour has cracked and formed cool patterns on the piece. Must be seen to really enjoy. Sorry no pictures of these pieces, the batteries in my camera went (you should go see it in person anyway). I do have pictures of my installation called "Digest" These are from the same series that were displayed recently at the Bethesda, Maryland "Art-o-Matic" exhibit at the Creative Partners Gallery. Unfortunately, the Art-o-Matic display at Creative Partners wasn't really the way I had envisioned the installation (Space issues, completely understandable) So, it was neat for me to see it the way I had imagined. Stephen Ruszkowski, Exhibit Designer at the DCCA did a great job installing my work and the show as a whole. It made me very proud to be a part of it.
