Art in York
I spent the day with the wonderful people at YorkArts working on my installation for the Arts & Industry show. We went to Adhesives Research and got some more supplies, then to the gallery for the installation. Several employees from Adhesives Research helped with the installation by cutting tape and giving suggestions. The local paper, the York News did a great piece on the show. You can read it here.It was a very fun day. Here are some pictures of the installation thus far.

Arts & Industry at YORKARTS
I am flying to York, Pennsylvania to create an installation for Yorkarts "Arts & Industry" show. It is a cool show that pairs artists with local industries in York. I am working with Adhesives Research using some double stick tape scraps. Employees of the company as well as members of the community will help me create the sculpture titled 'marrow'. I will post pictures of the process as I work on it this week.

Pinwheels for Peace
Molly Babcock, the energetic and inspired Art Teacher at Bennett Elementary school has created a wonderful Community Arts project called "Pinwheels for Peace". This project included 500 beautiful pinwheels created by the students at Bennett. Here are a few pictures, but they really don't give justice to the sound of 500 pinwheels rotating in the wind. It was a site to behold! The local paper even did a story about the project, you can find it here

UNDER SURVEILLANCE opening Tomorrow night
Tomorrow night at the Nevin Kelley Gallery in Washington DC the show "Under Surveillance" will open. This show, conceived by Ellyn Weiss and Sondra Arkin focuses on how we are all being increasingly watched by cameras the government, and each other in ways we would never have fathomed 20 years ago.
I am privilaged to be showing my work (Pictured here PLOT: Land) with such a great group of talented artists; Sondra N. Arkin, Scott G. Brooks, Groover Cleveland, Richard Dana, Anna U. Davis, Aziza Claudia Gibson-Hunter, Rosemary Luckett, Ann Stoddard, Tim Tate, Ruth Trevarrow, and Ellyn Weiss.
Stop by the gallery tomorrow from 6:00-9:00. The show runs through October 8th.
New Bathroom
I tiled our downstairs half bath while listening to the Democratic and Republican National Conventions. This bathroom is almost completely created using recycled items. The sink and tile were found at two local building recycling stores, Habitat for Humanity and Resource. This is the only finished room in the house. Only 12 more to go!

Our Fort Collins Folly
As many of you may know, my new home, Fort Collins, Colorado is home to the magnificent New Belgium Brewery. The story behind New Belgium is pretty neat. Essentially this couple made batches of beer in their basement based on a recipe conceived on a Belgian bike trip. This beer became "Fat Tire"and they formed a brewery that was called "New Belgium". The story is cool because it embodies the philosophy of the company "Follow your Folly". Why am I telling you about this? Because it was sitting outside the New Belgium brewery that my husband and I decided to "Follow Our Folly" and purchase a house in Fort Collins that needed a MAJOR upgrade. That is what has found us now, three weeks into our residency in our new town STILL sleeping in sleeping bags. Essentially,we don't want our stuff delivered until the floors are done, which still might be quite a few weeks out. But, we have faith in our contractor, Sovick Designs, and we know this squatting won't be forever. The upside? My daughter has made new friends in the neighborhood, has started school and is adjusting wonderfully to the new city. Here are a few pictures of our place, so you can get an idea of what we are up against.

SPAM MUSEUM!
Here are some photos of our trip to the SPAM museum in Minnesota. Okay, technically, I am in Colorado now, but my internet access is quite limited, so I am posting when I can. Anyway. This museum was a neato place totally focused on spam. Did I mention the gift shop? Every kind of SPAM, even bacon flavored!
